I live in an area with lots of arsenic and heavy metals in my drinking water, so I will be employing this it a similar method to purify my water. First, you need to drill a hole in the lid of the metal pot.
After that, grab the small copper pipe and bend it into a J shape. I was left with this dirty, salted water (which I could’ve turned into clear water to the last drop but decided not to for the purpose of demonstration). Distilling water at home can be done using primitive tools and without any power devices.
Placing Cold Packs or Ice
The moisture in the soil evaporates and condenses on the plastic sheet and runs downward to the center and then drips into the container at the bottom of the hole. Actual distillation is a much cleaner system, obviously, due to all of the dust and other trash floating around in the air. I personally wouldn’t drink water straight from a dehumidifier, but it is a source of treatable water.
I understand that it was an unlikely scenario question, so if you are interested in this for educational purposes, then I suggest looking into how it is done aboard the ISS. Most likely steam distillation at a specific temp, combined with some serious filtering including activated charcoal to remove nasty tastes and smells. In a shtf scenario, you may only have long-term access to urine. How to distill that into potable water–like on subs. Filtered Water
The key to circulating water vapor inside the large pot is airflow. Make sure there's plenty of space around the smaller pot, both around its sides and between it and the top of the larger pot. The quality of tap water varies by location, and might contain traces of minerals specific to the geology of your region, as well as traces of chemicals used in municipal water treatment. Hopefully your tap water is safe to drink, but that's not true for as many as45 million Americans. Check the progress from time to time and remove the pot from the burner once all the tap water in the big pot has evaporated. You don’t want to accidentally heat water in the small pot and cause that to start evaporating, reversing your progress. However, the process of making distilled water is incredibly time-consuming, and it’s not normally possible to make big batches at once.
Just remember, making your own distilled water is easy (and fun!), but lack of nutrients makes it a bad choice for daily drinking water. But if you're stuck at home and you rely on a device that requires it, or perhaps you just want to keep your fish healthy, you may want to try making it yourself. It does take some time for all this science to happen, so be prepared. In my example below, I started with 8 cups of water in the large pot. After 1 hour, I had produced about 1 1/4 cup of distilled water. To recreate a gallon jug that you'd find in the supermarket you'd need about 13 hours of distilling time.
Urine distillation would only be necessary in places like the international space station. Wrap the outside of the smaller pipe until it locks tightly with the copper piping. Make sure they are a tight fit so no water can escape.

My family don’t support my minimal prep efforts, and this is way beyond their comfort zone, but i would like to know nonetheless. Mine uses 8 feet of 3″ PVC with a simple floating ball stop at the top. It holds about 3 gallons and can be drained if necessary to refill and divert another 3 gallons. Use supplies around the home to make a water distiller when no water is available.

In other words, if you store your homemade distilled water in a plastic jug for extended periods of time, you’ll find that chemicals begin to leak into it. Before placing the distilled water into bottles or putting it to immediate use, allow it to cool completely. It should take just over an hour to distill a full 8-cup batch of tap water.
